I’d like to give a talk about my family. Well, I suppose that family is the most important thing in life for each person. My family is rather large: my dad, my mom, my younger sister, my elder brother, and myself. Besides, at present our grandparents live with us.
My father’s name is Alexander. He is in his late forties. He is a very handsome man. He is tall, broad- shouldered and well-built. He works as a dentist. My dad is very hardworking and purposeful. So, he spends most of his time at work.
My mom’s name is Anna. She is very beautiful. She has got long dark brown hair and big blue eyes. She is rather tall and slim. My mom is very kind, open-hearted and understanding, but at the same time she is strict and opinionated. But I get along with her well. As a matter of fact, she is a head of sales department. She is hardworking and committed to her profession. In her free time my mom enjoys reading books and watching movies. Moreover, she is a very hospitable person. We often invite guests and have fun together.
My sister’s name is Alisa. She is only 5 years old. She goes to the nursery school. She is very funny and smart. I spend a lot of time with her. We like to play hide-and- seek and watch cartoons together. Besides, she is a real beauty. She’s got long fair hair and big blue eyes.
My brother’s name is Ivan. He is in his early twenties. He wants to become a doctor. He is very strong and brave. Besides, he is trustworthy and reliable. I often share my secrets with him or ask for some advice. Actually, he’s got lots of hobbies: swimming, photography, wakeboarding, and rollerblading. As for his appearance, he is rather tall and well-built. He’s got dark hair and brown eyes.
Honestly, everyone in my family is my best friend. We always help and support each other. Both of my parents are understanding, kind and patient. On our weekends we often go out of town and stay at our country house. I help my grandma with gardening or go fishing with my granddad. My grandparents are retired but work part- time as teachers at school.
All in all, I appreciate every minute of my life spent in the circle of my family. That’s all I wanted to say.

I’d like to give a talk about family relations. As is known, family is where life begins and love never ends. So, it is very important to build warm and trusting relations between all family members. However, it is not that easy to get on well with your relatives. So, conflicts are inevitable and do happen in every family. There are lots of reasons for it.
Firstly, grown-ups may have problems at work or have some financial troubles. As a result, they become irritable, nervous, lose their temper and even try to withdraw. Secondly, family members can quarrel if they have different beliefs or views. For example, many parents disapprove of their children’s choice of friends, musical preferences and clothing styles. Thirdly, some parents are too strict and controlling. They put too much pressure on their children. Such parents give their kids no freedom of choice. As a result, children may become closed and have low self-esteem. Moreover, the choice of a career is another sticking stone. Some parents try to take full control, make all decisions disregarding their children’s desires and pick a certain career for their kids.
As far as I am concerned, I seldom quarrel with my parents. When I get good grades and study hard, everything is just fine. But when I skip my classes or is too lazy to do my homework, I naturally have arguments with them. Actually, my parents always say that I am a well-adjusted person. However, I often quarrel with my elder sister. We’re pretty much rivals. She always makes fun of me, and I get easily offended. Besides, I have to share a room with her.
All in all, I believe that all family conflicts are very common and can be easily resolved. It is very important to find a compromise and openly discuss all disturbing issues. Moreover, family members should be patient, understanding and respectful. That’s all I wanted to tell you.

I’d like to give a talk about family traditions. There is no doubt that family traditions play an important role in each person’s life. They help people bond as a family and create happy memories. So, in every family there are different traditions. I would like to tell you about some traditions in my family.
Frankly speaking, most our family traditions are connected with some celebrations, except for my favorite Sunday morning breakfast tradition. On Sundays we usually gather around the table together and discuss the latest news. Each family member should tell us about a good deed he has done recently.
Another family tradition is our May Day picnic. We usually go to the country where my grandparents live and spend there our days off. We enjoy making picnics by the river. My father usually cooks Russian fish soup and grilled vegetables. We like to sit up late at night and play chess.
Honestly, one of my favorite traditions is decorating our New Year tree. As I am fond of handicrafts, I usually make scrapbooks of our celebrations. Besides, we always celebrate New Year at home, in the circle of our family. I get up early in the morning and help my mom cook a festive supper and lay the table. When all preparations are behind, we watch TV and wait for our guests to come. When the Kremlin chimes strike twelve times, all of us make wishes, hold glasses of champagne and wish each other Happy New Year. Besides, New Year fireworks are must-have for this holiday.
As for my favorite tradition, it is definitely my birthday celebration. My parents usually wake me up early in the morning with a nice song “Happy birthday” and give me their presents and flowers. We always invite guests to our place and make fun. We sing songs, dance and play games. Then, suddenly, all the light goes out and my parents bring a very nice cake with burning candles. I make my wish and blow out all candles. In the end of the party all of us come outside and set off fireworks.

I’d like to give a talk about the role of the family in society. It is known that people differ in their morals, beliefs, values, and personality. So, in society everyone has different ideas on what role the family takes in life. Nowadays people face a difficult decision when they have to choose between career and family.

strongly believe that there is nothing more important in life than the bond of family. In my view, nobody loves you more than your family. You can always rely on your family members, and they never let you down. They are your best friends, your teachers and your allies. You can always trust to their intuition, ask for any advice or open your heart. They will be always there to help you. And if you ever take a false step, be sure it is your family who will stand for you. So, those moments spent in the circle of your family are priceless.

On the contrary, there are people who spend more time building a career. In their opinion, to become rich and wealthy is the road to happiness and success. Those people seem to be more independent, purposeful and pragmatic. They have strict plans for their life and work hard to achieve success. There are also those who claim that friends are more important than family. In my opinion, those people may feel lonely or misunderstood in their own family. It often happens when parents are too busy to speak with their children or to give advice. Besides, when parents are too authoritative or strict, children become estranged from them and confide in their friends. That is why parents should encourage their children to express their emotions and share their needs.
Personally, I believe that everything depends on how you establish life priorities. I would like to emphasize that friends cannot replace family, but family can replace friends. As for money, it will not buy happiness or cure a broken heart. That is all I wanted to tell you.
